Detonate and Spectrum announce re-opening Nottingham venue Brownes.

Detonate and Spectrum are pleased to announce the re-opening of the Nottingham Bar, BROWNES.

The famous venue in the Hockley area of the city centre will be re-launched on Friday August 22nd offering a new food menu, drinks range and varied programme of DJ and live music events.

The 370 capacity venue first started trading in 1989 as a wine bar, and has a long established reputation as one of the most popular establishments in Nottingham. Lief design have directed a minor refurbishment aimed at maintaining the charm of the Victorian grade II listed building whilst bringing it up to date, and incorporating a new sound system with full live event capabilities.
With the best part of two decades worth of club and event promotion experience, and both originating from Nottingham, Detonate and Spectrum are two of the most respected club nights in the UK; Both seen as the leading lights in their respective scenes. Detonates 4000 capacity sell-out Indoor Festival each May Is currently one of the biggest club events in the UK club calendar and their regular events at Stealth in Nottingham and Plug in Sheffield are two of these city’s most popular nights. The multi award winning Spectrum night resides across a number UK cities, including regular events at Gatecrasher (Nottingham), Custard Factory (Birmingham), The Royal (Derby) and Smack (Leamington Spa), and this year hosted an arena at Europe’s biggest dance music festival ‘Global Gathering’. It has also recently announced a new residency at Fabric’s new venue ‘Matter’ inside the Millennium Dome which opens this September.

This is the first venture of this kind as a partnership, although Detonate have operated their pub ‘The Golden Fleece’ since 2005 – picking up consecutive awards for ‘Best Bar Food’ in the Nottingham Bar & Club awards 2007 & 2008. The multi-faceted Brownes venue will see the pairing offering a well rounded space for drinking and dining throughout the day and early evening, and a variety of events at night throughout the whole week. A hefty investment into the sound system and live set up will enable Brownes to host all kinds of events from live music to arts performances.

The revamped mezzanine area will be available for party bookings, has it’s own entertainments capability, and will host monthly art shows by local artists, which local design house’ Studio Output’ will curate.

The opening weekend aims to showcase the wide range of events planned at Brownes.


Information on opening weekend entertainments:

Friday 22nd August – long standing Detonate resident, Santero provides the musical entertainment on the opening night. Open Midday to 1am.

Saturday 23rd August – resident Freeman from the Spectrum night starts his weekly session of quality music. Open Midday to 3am (extended license).

Sunday 24th August – Bent (DJ Set)- part of the Bomb Reunion event held between Brownes and Market Bar. Entry after 10pm £6 adv. Extended license until 4am.

Monday 25th August – The Apples (Live) – Entry after 8pm £7 adv. Live Israeli funk band stop by at Brownes as part of their world tour.
