Ivor Novello nominations out

Amy Winehouse, Radiohead and the Klaxons are all in with the chance of winning an Ivor Novello award.

The Ivors - Britain’s most prestigious songwriting contest – are the only mainstream music awards that recognises composers rather than performers.

In the category for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, Winehouse scooped two of the three possible nominations, for her tracks Love Is A Losing Game and You Know I’m No Good.

The singer is the first artist in the awards’ history to pick up two nods for this category, with both her songs taken from her critically acclaimed album Back to Black.

Also up for this prize is the lesser-known act Ben’s Brother, whose frontman Jamie Hartman has written tracks for Emma Bunton and Will Young.

Winehouse is also in the running for Best-selling British Song. This will see her competing with Mika’s Grace Kelly and Beautiful Liar, which was co-written by Beyonce, who released the song as a duet with Shakira.

Meanwhile, Radiohead’s In Rainbows is up against records by Stephen Fretwell and Cherry Ghost in the Best Album category.

In the Most Performed Work group, Kaiser Chief’s Ruby is set to go head to head with Take That’s Shine and Just Jack’s Starz In Their Eyes.

Other awards to be presented on the night include gongs for Best Contemporary Song, Best Original Film Score and Songwriter of the Year.
