Doherty sent down

Pete Doherty has been imprisoned for 14 weeks for violating his probation and for drug use.

The Babyshambles frontman was handed the sentence at a court hearing in west London.

He had previously been given a suspended jail sentence in October of last year, after being found guilty of illegal driving and possession of drugs.

As part of his supervision order, Doherty was required to visit the court regularly for progress reports and to participate in a drug rehabilitation programme.

It is believed the musician missed one appointment with his probation team and was late for another. Under current legal rules, he is likely to serve around a month of the sentence.

Doherty was this month due to play his biggest ever solo gig at the Royal Albert Hall in April.

However, the punishment means this concert will be re-scheduled for later in the year. All existing tickets will be valid for the new show once a date has been announced.

Speaking in a statement, his record label said: "Peter was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and to all those concerned."

Babyshambles have vowed to continue making music with the troubled singer. Drummer
Adam Ficek hopes Doherty will learn from his mistakes and move forward once he is released.

It the star spends the full 14 weeks in jail, he will miss a headlining slot on the Park stage at this year‘s Glastonbury Festival.
