October super six

30th Sep 2008, 6:13pm
Starting this month we have a introduced a section looking at six acts who are touring that month.

1. Feeder- Pop rock trio Feeder, embark on their first full length UK tour for three years. There has been a muted reaction to their current album Silent Cry. It has seen the band make an effort to return to their rockier roots, which should inject an energy into their set somewhat lacking on recent tours, due to the gentile nature of their recent offerings. The tour kicks off in Stoke on October 20th.

2. The Courteeners- the Manchester based Courteeners, certainly have plenty of hubris. In a recent interview lead singer Liam Fray said the band refused to just put out mediocre music as that what he perceives the public will accept these days. If you want to see if they are above the medium, or just pure tedium, they will be in Belfast on October 1st, the tour concludes in London on October 23rd.

3. The Black Kids- One of the biggest buzzes surrounding any group at the moment is the one circulating around the Black Kids. The Floridian based four piece have a created a stir somewhat reminiscent of how Arcade Fire and the White Stripes did. Their was big hype before they had even toured about this stylish, but streetwise American band. On tour in October including in Nottingham on the 31st.

4. Cheeky Cheeky and the Nosebleeds- Hailing from Woodbridge in Suffolk. Combining the self deprecating humour of the Futureheads and the musical bounce of the Young Knives, the Suffolk five piece have the right combination to reignite the flailing Ipswich music scene.

5. The Delays- An angelic indie pop group from Southampton. Now on their third album, the bands have failed to achieve any significant success that their gorgeous melodies deserve. Ignoring lead single Hooray, their new material is slightly harder edged. This has given their live performances an extra dimension. To see if you think they have evolved from the pop sensibilities of their first album. They play three shows in October, from the 7th till the 9th.

6. One group to check out in October has to be hotly tipped electro/alternative group Model Horror. Gaining plenty of airplay on Radio 1, the five piece from Hertfordshire band flirt with a variety of genres to produce a filthy cacophony of British electro noise. They have three dates in October starting on the 2nd.

The Pussycat Dolls v Coldplay

12th Sep 2008, 12:48pm
We find out all sorts of news here at The Music Directory. One almost laughable claim came from the glitzy Pussycat Dolls saying their new album sounds like Coldplay!

Erm… o.k. Cue uproar of laughter! Although the Dolls’ new album titled 'Doll Domination’, is yet to be released, I’m sure that they know deep down that it’s just not the same.

But the American girl group insist that the album crosses several different genres and sounds like Chris Martin’s band.

Band member Kimberly Wyatt says: “The new album is Pussycat Dolls to the next level. We worked with some really great producers - Rodney Jerkins, Sean Garrett, Cee-Lo Green and Timbaland

She added: “I’d even say it’s a bit like Coldplay! It's kind of got an indie-rock vibe.”

Kimberly also revealed that the Dolls recently recorded a track with newly-reformed American boy band New Kids on the Block.

You can’t knock them, however their style is very much hip-hop/pop and for them to go down the indie rock route will definitely be unusual and….. what’s the word I’m looking for?... interesting?

But never underestimate as I always say, we’ll just have to wait and see.

The Doll Domination album will be released on 28th Sept 2008.

Who would you like to push off the stage?

10th Sep 2008, 10:38am
The latest buzz around the office is the story about Noel Gallagher being pushed off the stage by a ‘fan’ while he was performing at an Oasis concert in Toronto.

The Oasis guitarist was injured on Sunday after a guy called Daniel Sullivan, 47, ran onto the stage during a performance at the Virgin Festival.

In the middle of singing “Morning Glory” he got pushed off the stage and fell onto his speakers, leaving him pretty bruised up and unable to perform the next gig.

God knows what got into Mr Sullivan’s mind when he rushed the stage, maybe a few too many beers? Even more confusing, he is apparently an Oasis fan so what urged him to do such a thing is one great big mystery!

Although we want to maintain a good relationship with music artists and our readers, we couldn’t help but start blurting out musicians that we would shove off the stage.

The general consensus here voted for The Ting Tings, Hard Fi, Bono, Girls Aloud, indie-pop bands in general… oh there’s too many, just get me a big stage!

We are not speaking literally so please don’t write in complaining, especially as the guy has been charged with assault and will appear in court in October! What an idiot!

Hello to you all from The Music Directory

Yes, it has been a while. We have been working very hard behind the scenes to improve the service we offer, and also a few little things on the side. One of them, I'm sure you might have noticed by now, is Freeq Magazine, a bi-monthly magazine for creative and forward thinking individuals. It has a circulation running into 5 figures across both Nottingham and Sheffield, and each issue has featured some of the bands registered us with here and online at TheMusicDirectory.co.uk.

So see, we do try our best. We also have something very exciting in the pipeline, but we could really do with a little feedback on it. At the bottom of a page is a link to a quick little survey (it will take you less than a minute, even if you really take your time over it), but we would really appreciate you filling it out as it would be a huge help to us.
